FAQ

What is Telehealth/virtual therapy?

Online therapy, simply put, is therapy across distance through electronic means. It combines the best practices of traditional therapy with new, unique advantages while maintaining the highest standards.

I am specifically trained in Telehealth for mental health counseling and use secure, private, easy to use HIPPA compliant software (Telehealth by Simple Practice) to offer you the best service. It can enhance your care, and provide you with more versatile and flexible scheduling options.

I have never had a virtual appointment. What should I expect?

Therapy will always take a willingness to show up and put in the work. However, Telehealth (virtual sessions) can take away many common stressors such as commuting, traffic, child-care, or taking time from work or school. Barriers sometimes hinder individuals from finding the time for therapy.

I offer sessions through a private and secure, HIPPA compliant platform.

All you need is stable internet, a private and safe space, and a device with camera for video.

Cozy up first thing in the morning with your coffee, in your car or office during lunch break, or let off some steam after work from the comfort of your own home!

What form of payments do you accept?

I accept all major credit cards, Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). All payments are made at the time of session.

Do you accept my insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. I am able to provide you with Superbill (receipt of service) upon request, which includes proper diagnostic codes for submission to insurance for possible reimbursement. Use the following questions as a guide for understanding your out-of-network benefits:

First ask if you have coverage for out-of-network [mental health] coverage. If yes, you should ask the following questions:

  1. Is there a separate deductible for out-of-network services?

  2. What is the reimbursement amount for these service codes: 90791 (intake session) and 90837 (ongoing therapy sessions)

  3. Where should you submit your receipts for reimbursement? (there's usually an online option, but sometimes you will need to mail in the receipt).

What are the benefits of not using insurance?

When therapists bill insurance companies for your care, they are required to give you a mental health diagnosis. This information will forever remain on your insurance records and be considered a pre-existing condition. When something is on your permanent insurance record, the information is not as private as some may think. This information can be accessed by any insurance company or government agency during a background check.

I choose to not contract with insurance because I believe my clients to be unique individuals and therapy is truly soul care. Having a private pay practice allows me to tailor sessions to meet the needs of my clients, rather than fit within the required parameters of insurance companies. We are able to discuss your needs and tailor a treatment plan for you, as opposed to assigning you a mental health diagnosis that will remain on your records. If a diagnosis is needed or requested, it will be for your benefit and treatment only.

How often do I need sessions?

Generally, clients start out with weekly sessions for the first 6-8 sessions. This allows us more focused attention to your goal and time to build our therapeutic relationship. After this time, some clients continue weekly sessions, others cut back to bi-weekly sessions. Ultimately, this is something we will discuss together, making a plan most suitable for your needs and goals.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

Every client is unique, therefore there is not a specific answer. However, I work within a goal oriented and solutions focused frame-work, which means with hard work and effort, many clients can meet their goals within 3-9 months, depending on their needs. Again, length of time is as individual as you! We will have regular check-ins to discuss your progress.

Some clients achieve their goals and begin feeling better within this time frame, yet continue to attend therapy. It can be helpful to have a standing time in your schedule to process life and get things off your chest. Others graduate therapy and we celebrate that! It all depends on you and your goals.
